Disposable vape alternatives after the 1 June 2025 ban

Single-use vapes have been banned from sale in England since 1 June 2025. The disposable vape alternatives that replaced them on shop counters are rechargeable kits that take replacement prefilled pods. To the customer they feel much the same: no filling, no settings, just click in a new pod when the old one runs out.

This page lists those kits in trade packs. They fall into three broad groups.

Matching each kit with its refills

The switch from disposables only works if the customer can buy pods for the kit they already own. Some pairings in our range:

For other brands, browse all prefilled pods. Explaining the refill to a customer at the point of sale, the first time they buy the kit, makes the return visit much more likely.

What counts as a reusable vape

Government guidance on the single-use vapes ban sets out three features a vape needs to be legal to sell. Every one of them must be met:

  • Rechargeable

The battery must be rechargeable, so the customer keeps and charges the device.

  • Refillable

The device must be refillable. Inserting a new prefilled pod counts as refilling.

  • Replaceable coil

The coil must be removable or replaceable, and it can sit inside a replaceable pod.

  • Refills on sale

Refill pods should be available to buy separately, and you may be asked to show this at inspection.

Duty also applies to the liquid in each pod at £2.20 per 10ml from 1 October 2026, or 44p for a 2ml pod. Our retailer compliance guide and vape tax guide explain both in more detail.

Helping customers make the switch

Former disposable users often need a quick explanation. Some points that help at the till:

  • Show the pod change. A ten-second demonstration of clicking in a new pod answers most questions.
  • Mention charging. Point out the charging port and that the device is kept, not thrown away.
  • Keep flavours familiar. Customers switching tend to want the flavours they already know.
  • Offer the next step. Regular users may save by moving to a refillable pod kit.

Frequently asked questions

When did the disposable vape ban start?

The ban on selling single-use vapes started on 1 June 2025 in England. Since then, vapes on sale must be rechargeable and refillable, with a replaceable coil. Retailers can no longer sell devices designed to be thrown away once the battery or liquid runs out.

Are prefilled pod kits legal after the ban?

Yes, provided they meet the reusable definition. A prefilled pod kit has a rechargeable battery and takes new prefilled pods, which counts as refilling, and the coil can sit inside the replaceable pod. Refill pods should also be on sale separately.

What do I tell customers who used disposables?

Explain that the kit works much the same way: no filling or settings, just a new pod when the old one runs out. The difference is that they keep and recharge the device. Showing the pod change at the till usually answers their questions.

Do I have to sell refill pods with every kit?

Government guidance says refills and replacement parts should be available for customers to buy separately, and retailers may be asked to show this during an inspection. In practice, that means stocking the matching pods for each kit you sell.

What should I do with any old disposable stock?

Single-use vapes can't be sold since 1 June 2025. Waste vapes count as electrical waste, so shops selling vapes must offer take-back for customers' old devices, either in store or through the Distributor Take-back Scheme. Check current guidance for your shop's obligations.

Should I offer refillable pod kits too?

It depends on your customers. Refillable pod kits use bottled e-liquid and usually cost less to run, with more flavour choice, but need filling. Prefilled pod kits are simpler. Many shops stock both, keep the matching refills for each, and let customers choose.

Stock the refills that go with them

Every kit you sell needs its matching prefilled pods. Browse by brand, or compare all prefilled pod vape kits and refillable pod kits. All products are for over-18s only.
